Today was the first day back in class after the holiday break. We started class by changing seats which was very exciting and new! Next we had two objectives: IWBAT explore www.noredink.com to determine how my grammar/ mechanics will improve, and IWBAT analyze ENDINGS as either romantic or modern. We only got through the first objective today however, because Mrs. Kopp came into our class to talk about a new elective that we can take next year in our schedules. This new elective is called "Tomorrow's Teachers" and is only available to juniors and seniors. Basically, the class is about educating and children and the type of work teachers do, like lesson plans. The last 6 weeks of the class also involves field work where you would drive to one of the elementary schools in Sparta and work with younger children and help the teachers. The course is an honors course and can be transferred for 3 college credits. If interested you can go to guidance to get an information packet and an application because there are only 30 seats available. After Mrs. Kopp left we made accounts on noredink.com. This website let us pick things we are interested in and then created sentences off those things which we would correct for grammar and things. We took the baseline on it today to see where our strengths and weaknesses are. Also we are almost done with The Great Gatsby. Chapter seven is due by Thursday. The focus of this chapter is to see how Fitzgerald builds or releases tension during: Tom and Daisy’s house, Driving to/from city, and at the NYC hotel. Also, Chapters eight and nine are due next Wednesday the eleventh.
